Sagrada Pena is a return to the motherland. Made by two Ecuadorian photographers, the series looks through the lens of melancholia: the ache of coming home carrying sorrow. Home receives what we bring back. It makes room for our grief and lets us see it outside ourselves, in the land, the faces and the light that first shaped us. There, sorrow becomes something we can hold, and something sacred.
